Price of Nigerian Passport

The current official price for a 32 pages Nigerian passport is N50,000 (fifty thousand naira) only valid for 5 years, and N100,000 (one hundred thousand naira) only for the 64 pages Nigerian passport valid for 10 years. The key requirement for applying for any of these passport is National ID Card or NIN and birth certificate or age declaration.

The process of applying for the passport is actually straightforward but incredibly slow. Any applicant can follow the process to apply by herself at the passport portal or she can visit any Immigration service office close to her to apply in-person. For the first day, the application process consist of meeting the passport officer or any officer in Immigration uniform on the site to declear your interest, the officer will then introduce you to the passport officer, but in most cases you will be introduce to a middle man officer, who would give you a form to submit your details and an account number to pay. This is the case if you are desperate to get the passport otherwise, you may have to wait approximate 2 to 3 months to get your passport. So, these desperate applicants go through a process know as passport fast-tracking.

Fast tracking is not recognized by the government, which makes it risky, but that's how many got their passport fast. Therefore, if it is your first time, you just have to hope that you'll be introduce to the right person. The best approach is to do it yourself online or go straight to passport office, and deal directly with the passport officer, while rejecting any fast-tracking offer and be patience. It is currently impossible to influence the date of your capturing because, the schedule is being handle by a computer program not a human being, and its often happen within a week. But, you can get your passport the same date that you are captured or a day after, since printing is handle by human beings, they could decide to print yours first, anytime, as long as the printing materials are available and you have played your cards well.

I wanted to attend a science seminar in China on fission energy in January 2025 but, uptill November 2024 I had no Nigerian passport that could enable me to apply for the Chinese visa, so I went straight to the Nigerian Immigration Office, opposite Ikeja City Mall or Shoprite, Alausa, Ikeja, Lagos. There, I met an officer in uniform at the entrance, who enquire what I wanted to do, and later laid me upstairs to collect my details. I then inquire about the cost, which he responded with N70,000. I argued with him because, I was aware of the official cost (N50,000) of a 32 pages passport, with a 5 years validity, but he explained that, the addition N20,000 was his supervisory charges, which everyone know about according to him, he went further to inform me that there's an additional N30,000 fast-tracking fee that I could pay to get my passport within 3 weeks with a total cost of N90,000 only. And that his suggestion immediately got my attention because I was running out of time. So, I pleaded with him to take N80,000 with the fast-tracking and every other thing inclusive and he reluctantly agreed. And since this was no more official dealings, he offered me his personal Opay account and I instantly transferred him N80,000 even though he was open to accepting even N70,000 and the N10,000 balance after my passport is out. I wasn't really scared because he was in uniform.

After confirming my payment, he asked me to provide him with two of my passport size photographs, but before that, he requested me to confirm at the passport portal that my passport size photos were of acceptable quality. He also said, if I were not familiar with the confirmation steps, that there were photographers around that are ready to help at just N2,000. Immediately, I opted for the help of the photographers around, but I bargain N1,000 with them because I already have my passport size photos, but all of them rejected my offer arguing that, regardless whether I came with a passport of not, the passport quality confirmation price remains the same. Eventually, I logon to the passport portal myself, uploaded my passport size photos and got a green checked that, the uploaded image was valid as per the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) compliances. ✅ I showed it to the officer, and he asked me to forward him my passport photo that have passed the check. And that was how I saved N2,000 that day. We exchanged contacts, he promised to text me first as soon as I have been scheduled for capturing, I notched and I left the office.

Two weeks passed, no words from the officer, then I decided to text him first, I inquired why I haven't been scheduled for two weeks now, he told me to exercise patience, then a week after that, he texted me first with a confirmation screenshort for my schedule capturing, one week from that day. I wasn't please because 3 weeks have passed already and I have not even been captured, meanwhile, his initial claimed was that, fast-tracking enables one to get her passport in 3 weeks, yet 3 weeks have passed and I haven't even being captured, although, I have now been schedule for capturing in the forth week, still I remained calmed untill my capturing date was like tomorrow, so I called him today to remind him that I will be coming for capturing the next day, as the screenshot he sent me showed, but he claimed he's busy or had been down on health and have not been to the office throughout that week. He asked me to delay my visit until the next week (the 5th weeks) and I did. But on the 5th week, he came up with the same excuse, so I became furious and went to the office on my own, he wasn't there, but I met with others that know him, I tendered the capturing screenshot had to me and they said it's geniune, in facts, they said I should have ignored him and came as scheduled last week, but that it wasn't late anyways. They charged me an additional N5,000 to print the original copy of my schedule capturing and for stamping. And I was captured that day.

Now, I was a bit relieved, but time wasn't on my side, and the officer had blocked me since learning that I was deviant, his colleagues called him several times but he did not take anyone call because, many people came with complaints of him taking money from people without processing their passport, many said, mine was even better because he had at least paid for my passport, while many other complainant said he had not even paid for their passport, some of them paid twice as much as I did, long before I did and he had not even paid their official passport fees.

I was just seated in a contemplative mode at the reception, thinking of how else I could beat time without losing more money, when one of his colleague in uniform approached me and introduced himself as one in the printing department, he said that he was aware of my plight and wanted to help, if I am open to it, he would go into the capturing room, take my file and proceed to his department were he would immediately print my passport for me the same day, as long as it was a 32 pages passport that I applied for, that they'd run out of material for the 64 pages passport. Immediately I exclaimed that mine was a 32 pages passport, and he notched. He however, said that his help would cost me N20,000 only, and that, had I know, I would not have paid the fraudulent officer for fast-tracking, and that, fast-tracking is only always a topic after capturing not before.

I paid another Immigration officer in the passport printing department to fast-track the printing of my passport, after the first officer failed me.

This time, I was scared even though he was in uniform, afterall the other fraudulent officer was also in uniform, so I took note of his name, and went behind him to findout his trust scores from his other colleague, when it became apparent that he was a no nonsense man, I was still being cautious, so I proposed to pay him N10,000 to begin the process, and to balance him the remaining N10,000 when the passport was ready and he agreed. Immediately, I made the transfer to his Opay account account, after he had confirmed the payment, he went into the capturing room, broughtout my file and showed me, where my passport is schedule for collection March 30th, 2025, and it corresponded with the slip I was given after capturing, that was when I knew he was serious. He asked me to give him a few hours for the printing. Feeling excited, I left for the City Mall, where I eat and had a drink, then I proceed to visit my friend at Sino Truck Headquarters at Opebi-Allen, Ikeja.

My official passport collection date was March 5th, 2025. But I got it on December 12th, 2024 by fast-tracking the printing process.

Around 5 PM that day, I got a call from the printer that, my passport was almost ready, but for some reason, I would only be able to pick it up in the morning of the following day, since the office has been closed. Then around 6 PM the printer WhatsApp me a screenshot of my passport, said that it's ready, and also sent me the phone number of the holder, whom I would obtain it from the following morning as he would not be at work, and demanded his balance. I sent him his balance, the following day, I went to the office, I called and met with the man who handed me my passport, retrieved my captured slip and I signed out.

That was it.

So, in total, I spent roughly N100,000 for a N50,000 32 pages Nigerian passport because, I wanted it fast-tracked. 😔

Later, the fraudulent officer unblocked me, maybe his colleagues must have told him that I have gotten my passport, so I asked him to refund me at least N20,000 out of the N30,000 fast-tracking fee that he collected from me, then he blocked me again.
